Carnosine
A great peptide for the skin in antiaging, anti-glycation, and skin protection against aging.
Carnosine is one of a few peptides that can be absorbed into the skin to do the work due to its small molecular size.
Carnosine is a skincare ingredient that has been extensively researched and proven to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS), counteract glycation, and enhance the collagen synthesis activity of fibroblasts. This scientific backing instills confidence in its efficacy.
Anti-glycation is vital for skin health, maintaining a youthful appearance, and slowing aging. Glycation is where skin aging starts. Studies indicate glycation disturbs our skin's ECM structure, inhibits fibroblasts' regular activity, and speeds up aging.
A clinical study showed that carnosine-containing night cream significantly reduced oxidative stress in human skin ex vivo. Clinically, hydration (+ 64.4%; p < 0.05) and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) values (− 10.0%; p < 0.05) were improved within 1 hour of use. Wrinkle counts were reduced by up to 18.9% (p < 0.05), and brown and UV spot numbers by 5.5% (p < 0.05) and 13.2% (p < 0.05), respectively. The lactic acid-induced stinging was significantly reduced within seven days of use, with 86.7% of subjects reporting that their skin felt calmer.
As carnosine is a naturally occurring substance in the body and plays a crucial role in maintaining health, its safety for topical use is assured. This natural origin provides a sense of reassurance.
